Moments earlier, in what looked like another trademark collapse, the Southern football team fizzled on offense, made too many late mistakes on defense and gave away a fourth-quarter lead to Alabama State.

Baton Rouge, La - He was physically spent, covered in sweat and dirt, and emotionally devastated. Jabbar Juluke stood on the west sideline at A.W. Mumford Stadium, waiting for the agony to end.
It was Oct. 17, 1992, a cool night for a hot rivalry. Jackson State rallied from a 12-point deficit to drop Southern, 25-24, and for Juluke, the closing minutes were rough.

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana - Alabama A&M came here eager to prove that the Southwestern Athletic Conference preseason predictions were wrong.
The Bulldogs were picked to finish fourth in the league's Eastern Division preseason poll. After Saturday's showing against Southern, maybe they should have been picked to finish last.
They certainly played like one of the worst teams in the league against the Jaguars.

Grambling's Buch Buchanan
was the 1st overall pick in the 1963 AFL draft.
Today, the best defensive football player in the NCAA FCS division is awarded the Buch Buchanan Award.
The 6'7, 270lb. defensive
phenom revolutionized the game with his size, speed, strength and endurance.
He missed one game in his 13 year pro career.

Alcorn State's Steve McNair was the 3rd overall pick in the 1995 NFL draft.
He won the coveted Walter Payton Award in 1994, which goes to the best offensive player in the FCS (IAA).
At Alcorn State, he set FCS (IAA) career records,14,496 passing yards and 16,283 career offensive yards, which still stand today.
As a pro, he played in one Super Bowl, three Pro Bowls and was NFL Co-MVP in 2003.
