YPSILANTI, Mich. - Alabama State fought hard but came up short in falling to Eastern Michigan, 14-7 on Saturday.

The Hornets offense moved the ball often into Eagles' territory but could score just once time in five drives. Defensively, ASU allowed just two scoring drives and made two takeaways.

Baton Rouge, La - He was physically spent, covered in sweat and dirt, and emotionally devastated. Jabbar Juluke stood on the west sideline at A.W. Mumford Stadium, waiting for the agony to end.

It was Oct. 17, 1992, a cool night for a hot rivalry. Jackson State rallied from a 12-point deficit to drop Southern, 25-24, and for Juluke, the closing minutes were rough.

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana - Alabama A&M came here eager to prove that the Southwestern Athletic Conference preseason predictions were wrong.

The Bulldogs were picked to finish fourth in the league's Eastern Division preseason poll. After Saturday's showing against Southern, maybe they should have been picked to finish last.

They certainly played like one of the worst teams in the league against the Jaguars.
